Philippines holds another North Korean vessel

Kim Jong-un might be minded to tell masters of North Korean vessels to give the Philippines a wide berth following the seizure of another ship in the Southeast Asian archipelago.

The Tuvalu-flagged Theresa Begornia is being held by authorities in the south of the country after it called at Mindanao Container Terminal late last week. The ship is crewed by 22 North Koreans. No illegal cargoes have been found on an initial inspection of the vessel.

This is the second ship to be scrutinised by Philippine authorities since new stricter sanctions were voted in by the UN Security Council at the start of the month.

The first ship, Jin Teng, was stopped at Subic and has not been allowed to proceed for around a week, despite the fact a Chinese company has since claimed ownership of the ship.
