Two Offshore Workers Kidnapped from Vessel

Another offshore kidnapping has happened in the Gulf of Guinea. Two offshore workers have been kidnapped from an offshore support vessel in Nigeria.

According to the owner of the vessel, France-based Bourbon Offshore, unknown assailants captured two crew members from the Bourbon Liberty 251 anchor handler on Tuesday, February 23.

The company said the two captured men were of Nigerian and Russian nationalities and “are considered as abducted.”

The ten other crew members are back on board the vessel in Onne port, safe and sound, Bourbon Offshore said.

“An emergency cell has immediately been set up. Bourbon is in contact with the families, and supports them in this difficult event. “

The company said it would continue to disclose any new information when available and verified, “but will not make any further comment.”

This is not the first time Bourbon is facing kidnappings offshore Nigeria. In April last year, gunmen abducted three offshore workers from a crew supplier. The workers were set free a month later under unclear circumstances.
