Two Leevac yards team to build Z-Tech tug

OCTOBER 22, 2013 — Leevac Shipyards, LLC recently delivered the first of two 60-t bollard pull Z-Tech 2400 harbor tug boats, the Chloe K, to Bay-Houston Towing Co.

Leevac has shipyards in two Lousiana locations, Jennings, Lake Charles and Houma. The Chloe K was constructed at the Jennings shipyard and was later transported, via one of Leevac's own dry docks, to Leevac Shipyard Lake Charles, LLC where she received her final outfitting, commissioning, and testing.

"This is the first tug that Leevac Shipyards, LLC has built in many years," said Christian Vaccari, President of Leevac. "This was mainly due to the draft restrictions at our Jennings facility. Now, with the addition of our Leevac Shipyard Lake Charles facility, we can build deeper draft vessels such as tug boats and fishing vessels that  were not on our radar screen before."

The Robert Allan designed Z-Tech 2400 harbor tug is 80 feet long, with a 38 foot beam, and a working draft of 16 feet. She is powered by two Caterpillar 3516C HD engines, delivering 2,575 horsepower each and mated to Model SRP-1215 Schottel drives, driving 94 inch stainless steel propellers.
