North Sea OSV is first vessel detained for MLC deficiency

SEPTEMBER 6, 2013 — The Liberian flagged offshore supply vessel Atlantic Carrier, operating in support of the DanTysk offshore wind farm in the North Sea, looks to have gained the dubious distinction of being the first vessel detained for a breach of the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC), which entered into force August 20.

A port state control inspection carried out Tuesday by the Danish Maritime Authority as the crew did not have the individual employment agreements required by the MLC.

The OSV was detained for 24 hours until the manager, Atlantic Marine & Aviation of the U.K., had corrected the deficiency.
