Stevens Towing elects new president

FEBRUARY 27, 2013 — The Board of Directors of Yonges Island, SC, headquartered Stevens Towing Co., Inc., has elected W. Johnson Stevens, III, to serve as the new president of the company, succeeding his father, William J. "Bill" Stevens, Jr., who will serve as chairman of the board and as chief executive officer.

The moves reflect a planned leadership transition for the younger Stevens, son of the former president, to become the fourth generation of the Stevens family to head Stevens Towing.

W. Johnson Stevens III joined the company in 2007 and has served in a broad range of operations and management positions there over the years.

The board also appointed an executive committee charged with managing day-to-day operations of the company.  Johnson Stevens will lead the executive committee, serving with two outside directors, Mike Deignan and Jack Hoey.

Gordon Locatis, Stevens' long-time Vice President and general manager, will transition to a new role focusing on business development. Benjamin "Bos" Smith will continue as Vice President, Sales and Operations.

Stevens Towing Co, Inc. principally serves customers in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, but also provides custom transportation services to key coastal cities and select international markets.  Stevens was founded in 1913 and is set to celebrate a milestone 100th anniversary later this year. Steven Towing has offices, a shipyard, and vessel facilities located on Yonges Island, near Charleston Harbor and just 35 minutes from downtown Charleston.
