
FEBRUARY 19, 2013 — Bangladesh shipbuilder Western Marine Shipyard Ltd. has handed over the RO/RO passenger ferry Isefjord to Danish operator Hundested-Rørvig Færgefart A/S.
The ferry, with a capacity of 147 passengers and 28 vehicles, will be used on Danish coastal services.
Isefjord is believed to be the most advanced ship thus far built by a Bangladeshi shipbuilder.
It is the first passenger ship delivered by a Bangladeshi shipyard to a European customer, although Western Marine Shipyard Ltd. has delivered eight 5,200 DWT ice class multipurpose cargo ships ships to Germany recently.
Main particulars are:
Length: 49.80 meters.
Beam: 11.20 meters.
Draft: 2.25 meters.
Machinery: Two main engines, each 500 hp.
Speed: approx. 11 knots.
Capacity: 28 cars and 147 passengers.
