Course Description:
The VHF radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board any vessel and it is not only vital but a legal requirement that those in operation or supervising those in operation of a VHF hold a minimum of a short range certificate.

On confirmation of your booking you will be sent a course pack including an RYA VHF Handbook and an exam application form (this will be signed by your instructor on completion of the course before your exam.)

During this course you will learn:-

the basics of radio operation
the correct frequencies (channels) to be used
distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures
making ship to shore telephone calls
Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators
Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)
Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
Search and Rescue (SART)

This course will be taught & examined using radio simulators and include a short written test.

After completing up to 3 hours pre-course reading material and a 1 day course you will be assessed by an independent assessor
